Kindergarten Screening Update - Screening Assessment Guidelines

2020-2021 Kindergarten Parents,

Here is the plan and guidelines for the day of your child’s Kindergarten Screening Assessment:

  1. Please limit the number of attendees for kindergarten screening to the student and custodial parent/s.
  2. Park in the front of the building and enter the school at the main entrance.
  3. Face coverings will be required to enter the building for the duration of the screening by all parties.
  4. Upon entering the front doors, parents will go with the principal (Mr. Thorp) and technology coordinator (Mr. Lee) into the computer lab. Students will go with the teachers to begin their assessments in the auditeria. Social distancing will take place in both. Sanitizing will take place after each session.
    1. In the computer lab, Mr. Thorp will discuss general beginning of the school year items, special kindergarten scheduling to start the school year, and answer any questions. Mr. Lee will discuss FinalForms, Schoology, and other important technology accounts.
    2. Students will be completing all their assessments in the auditeria in an arena setting.
    3. Transportation Supervisor Diann Sanders will be available to answer questions in the office.
  5. Once students finish with their assessments, they will be brought to the computer lab and will reconvene with their parents. At that point, students and families will be free to leave or stay if more assistance is needed in preparation for the school year.

Plan/guidelines for Kindergarten Open House:

  1. The date of kindergarten open house will be Monday, August 17th.
  2. Please limit the number of attendees for kindergarten open house to the student and custodial parent/s.
  3. Students will be assigned a 15-minute block to visit their classroom. This time will be communicated after kindergarten screening takes place on the placement recommendation summary sheet. We will assign 4 students (and their parents) from each homeroom at a time during these sessions. We anticipate everyone having a 15-minute time frame between 5:00 and 6:30.
  4. Park in the front of the building and enter the school at the main entrance.
  5. Face coverings will be required to enter the building for the duration of the screening by all parties.
  6. Only kindergarten teachers will be in the building. Administration will also be walking the halls, greeting new students, and helping with any questions. Transportation will have someone available in the main office to answer any last-minute questions.
  7. Upon entering the front doors, administration will greet visitors and help families find the kindergarten classrooms. Once in the classroom, the teacher will take over the open house festivities in their rooms.
  8. We encourage students to bring all their supplies for the school year during this event.
  9. After the 15-minute classroom block, students and parents are welcome to walk the building adhering to social distancing and sanitizing guidelines.
